It’s been a wild ride the last several years, including a move to North Carolina, then back to Maryland…and then to another area in Maryland, not far from where I had initially escaped for North Carolina. As we’ve been searching for our property, we’ve had one more move–this one, however, is within the walls of our current home.

It’s easy to look around and say, “Wow, we have a lot of stuff. We should get rid of some of it.” But it is difficult to do. I’ve never been the tidiest or the most organized of people (just ask my Momma), but I try. I try really, really hard at it. With this internal move, though, Mike and I are forced to look at everything and evaluate its usefulness. We are forced to sort, organize, toss, etc.

This morning, I am focusing on organizing the linens closet (something I haven’t had in either of the houses I’ve owned as an adult) and clearing out the living room of our accumulated stuff. Most my stuff is craft- and sewing-related, and with no sewing room in which to store it, it kinda just goes wherever I can fit it. Mike’s is mostly outdoor stuff, with the same storage technique, since we do not have a garage. While he is at work and I am on spring break, I am happy to report that a visible dent has been made in the living room, and the linens closet now has visible shelves! Though this is a lot of relatively unexpected work, it is necessary and will be very helpful for when we do find our new place and can move from our rental.

What is your biggest struggle in organization & storage within your home? What are some systems or actual structures/areas you would like to have in place to help you keep things orderly and efficient?
